Next Steps in Policy Development

The Oregon IDA Initiative monitors policy developments nationally and in Oregon, using the CFED Household Financial Security Framework as a tool, and the data and policy framework of the Assets and Opportunity Scorecard to evaluate progress and focus on next steps. Neighborhood Partnerships maintains an Oregon Assets and Opportunity website which tracks activity and news locally.

The Oregon IDA Initiative Partners are seeking a small change to the enabling statutes for the Initiative in 2013.

Building Financial Resilience through Lifelong Savings:

HB 2316 with -2 amendments

Current limits on assets mean that many of our Initiative Partners have had to turn away otherwise eligible participants because of their modest retirement savings, or, for youth, their parents’ retirement savings. HB2316 with -2 amendments proposes a technical adjustment to the original legislation which removes a very serious disincentive to the very habits the Initiative is designed to foster.  Read more about HB2316 with -2 amendments here.
